Below are links to a number of .pdf documents that are of value to anyone considering becoming an FFF Certified Casting Instructor.

This first grouping is a collection of documents put together by, and compliments of, Dan McCrimmon, CBOG. They were collected to be included in a workshop format that Dan put together. They present essential information on learning and teaching skills that all candidates need to be aware of.

Handout 1 - Training Skills - This 6 page document, authored by Jim Watkins, presents a short course on elements necessary to be an effective casting instructor.

Handout 2 - Communications - This document presents Bruce Richard's Six Step Method, which describes an effective way to approach the analysis and cure of casting problems through a structured communicaton technique.

Handout 3 - Adult Learning - A simplistic document describing a few principals of adult learning.

Handout 4 - Styles - Al Kytes concise description of the 3 main style of casting based upon the position of the elbow while casting. One of the seminal documents on fly casting.

Handout 5 - Analyzing the Cast - Steve Rajeffs article on the importance of analyzing 4 main elements of a cast.

Handout 6 - Simplicity - A short simple document about simplicity in teaching by Mel Kreiger.

Handout 7 - Notes on Instructing - A presentation of information and techniques for casting instructors by Denise Maxwell.

Observations on Teaching Flycasting - A must read by Mel Kreiger covering some important teaching techniques.

Substance and Style - Another seminal document by Al Kyte, this one focuses on the discussion of separating the "substance" from "style" in fly casting. Knowledge of the information presented here is a necessity for a well rounded instructor.

Master Your Fly Casting - A booklet by Jim Chaparalis and published by Orvis, this booklet presents an effective method for improving your casting skills based upon a merit system. It walks you through casting at a beginners level, expert level and master level.

Rod Acceleration - Bruce Richards' discussion on how proper acceleration is fundamental to a good cast.

How Rod Action Can Affect Your Cast - Bruce Richards' discussion on rod action and casting.
